For March and April, reading group will be covering Society of the Spectacle by Guy Debord. This cycle will be co-led by Chris Pinter and Ben Streaks.
Summary: The Society of the Spectacle is a 1967 work of philosophy and Marxist critical theory by Guy Debord, in which the author develops and presents the concept of the Spectacle. Debord was a filmmaker, philosopher, and member of the Situationist International (SI). The book is considered a seminal text for the Situationist movement. It is a critique of contemporary consumer culture and commodity fetishism, dealing with issues such as class alienation, cultural homogenization, and mass media.
The version we will be covering for reading group, and which is available at the provided Marxists.org link, is the Black & Red translation from 1970 (revised 1977).
