The Art Committee is an arm of Nox Library that strives to connect with the local art community while internally producing materials and resources for fundraising and distribution. Detroit has a deep history of artists whose work has been a vital form of building solidarity and strengthening community education. Like Nox’s Literature Distribution efforts, the Art Committee is driven by the belief in the self-sufficient distribution of knowledge and resources. We value literature and other art as crucial forms of education and modes of connecting with one other.
The Art Committee began in Fall 2021 as a small group of young artists with the immediate goal of creating graphics for promotional material and constructing a Nox Library little library. It has additionally committed to helping develop events, programs, and resources with mutual aid groups of Detroit to promote art and act as a liaison between local artists. The committee is also responsible for organizing Pressed Coffee conversations with artists, a monthly newsletter of articles, essays, photos, and highlights of conversations with local artists based around Nox Library’s foci: labor, class, race, and politics. We look forward to building connections in Detroit’s art community and producing Nox Library merchandise in 2022!
